The Sunbirther

For the Atomhawk 'Under Strange Suns' competition.

The destroyer of worlds, the creator of suns. Said to shine brighter than a thousand suns. This planet is prone to dangerous ignitions within its atmosphere, which creates a surplus of the Sunbirthers. The level of radiation on this planet has to be kept within 1500 mSv, as corium rock formations start appearing on the ground, slowly poisoning the planet if it's above the limit. It's Guy Normus' job to maintain the radiation levels in Sector - 7403 for Mirror Corp. And that makes it a sad day at work, as a curious Sunbirther approaches, and Guy reaches out his lead rod to do his job as an exterminator.

This project was also a chance for me to look a bit more on my emotions, as I am approaching the scary and tumultuous feelings of navigating my father's terminal cancer. Looking at the spreading of formations, and facing the unpredictable, terrifying and almost hopeless beings of cancer while feeling so small with nothing but a lead rod to poke it with and hope for the best.

It's a sad day at work for Guy, as he stands amidst the mutated corium rock formations, indicating the need for a reduction of radiation in the sector. A curious sunbirther approaches.
